Downgrade from Pro to Free plan

Downgrading your subscription

You can downgrade from Pro or Business to a lower plan (including Free) at any time.

Steps to downgrade

  1. Go to Billing in the sidebar.
  2. Click Manage subscription (opens Stripe customer portal).
  3. Click Change plan or Cancel subscription (to go to Free).
  4. Select the plan you want to downgrade to (Free, Pro, or Business).
  5. Confirm the change.

What happens immediately after downgrade

  • Your plan changes at the end of the current billing period, not immediately.
  • You keep your current limits until the period ends.
  • You will not be charged again after the current period.

What happens when the new period starts (downgrade takes effect)

  • Published tree limit reduces (e.g., 50 → 10). If you have more than 10 published trees, you must unpublish the excess. Certorix does not automatically unpublish trees — the widget may show errors until you manually unpublish.
  • Certified fact limit reduces. Similar rule: uncertify excess facts manually.
  • AI generations limit resets to the new plan's monthly limit.
  • Team member limit reduces. If you have more members than allowed, you must remove members (admins only).

Preparing for downgrade

  1. Review your current usage (Billing page → usage meters).
  2. If you exceed the target plan's limits, unpublish trees, uncertify facts, or remove team members before the downgrade takes effect.
  3. Export any important data (trees as JSON, facts as CSV) for backup.

Reactivating after downgrade

If you downgraded to Free and later want to upgrade again, go to Billing → Upgrade. Your previous data (including trees and facts) is still there (unless you deleted it).
